How much Busch Lite did you drink before writing that?
Not enough but catching up quickly.... :B OH, and GASBAG, thanks for the BUZZ KILL, now I gotta go and figure in the RUM factor as well as the SPAM factor. :B

RE: WHAT REALLY is the difference.

What if he runs synthetic oil instead of dino oil?...and if he eats Spam instead of steak then...how does this figure into the cost?
AHHHHH SHUCKS - I forgot to figure in the SPAM Factor, it would decrease the cost even more for the 8mpg guy but I'd have to figure in weather or not he cooked it on the fire or used the propane stove in the camper. It makes a difference you know. :B

WHAT REALLY is the difference.

What really is the difference?
You tell someone you get 8mpg and they then say they get 10mpg or even 12mpg. Well on a 200 mile round trip 3 day weekend that means the guy getting 10 saved $11 bucks over the guy getting 8 and the guy getting 12 saved $18 over the guy getting 8 and $7 over the guy getting 10mpg. Well, you know what that’s all great and everything but then the guy getting 12 pays $120 for three nights at a KOA and the guy getting 8 pays $45 for the SAME three nights at a state park. Maybe the guy getting 8mpg also likes BUSCH LITE and pays $30 for two cases of beer for the weekend. The guy getting 12mpg won’t drink anything but SAM ADAMS and is out $50 for two cases for the weekend. The guy at the state park getting 8mpg, drinking his BUSCH lite also just happened to LOVE hotdogs cooked over the campfire while the guy at the KOA wont eat anything but T-Bones???
Summation:
8mpg – State Park – Busch Lite – Hot Dogs = $130
12mpg – KOA – Sam Adams = $240

New TV. Ford F350

Had to share.... Picked up our new TV on Monday night. 2005 Ford F-350 Crew Cab 6.8L V10 with 4.10 gears. Its a gasser to boot and thats exactly what I wanted even though some may critisize. Its probably overkill for my current trailer but the dealer made me an offer I could NOT refuse. Pulled the TT back to the Storage area on Tuesday and I had to look several times to make sure it was back there. My old 1500 pulled this TT just fine but sometimes you don't know what you have until you have something different, BOY was this awesome. The key here is that my travels have just become unlimited and my options for TT or Fiver in the future have pretty much opened WIDE up. I wouldn't have pulled through the mountains in my old TV but now I can't wait for our first trip to the mountains.
Thanks for listening, you guys (and gals) all ROCK.
I havent figured out posting PICS here but you can see them at our camping blog or click on the link in my signature.

RE: I want to order a 2009 truck, nobody wants to sell one!

I would try Woodhouse in Blair Nebraska. Just picked up a slightly used F-350 $7400 off the asking price. You cant beat their inventory and if they cant find what you want you wont find it. Ask for Tom Bloom....

RE: Looking at an F350

Thanks for everyone's input I really appreciate all of your experiences both pro and con. Thats what I love about this forum, it makes you look at all angles regardless of what you percieve as the correct angle. Wish me luck, I am headed to the dealer tomorrow to take a drive and discuss the price I want. We will see...

RE: Looking at an F350

Personally I don't know of too many TT's that require a diesel (read his first post...he did mention upgrading his TT to a bigger TT...not a 15,000# 5'r)...
Joe.
Well Joe, I can tell you that although mine may not "require" it, my diesel sure does make towing a pleasure! I even have it chipped!:B
Barney
Tell me why? Better mileage? I know they last a lot longer than a gasser, and I assume have more power. Whats the downfall to a Diesel, why doesn't everyone have one? Just trying to explore all the facts here. How would I justify the extra cost? Better resale value I hear. While looking for a new TV I see a LOT of Diesel's out there with 150,000 miles and it appears the price is WAY more than I would pay for something with that many miles? Is a f350 Diesel with 100,000 miles a better truck for the money than a f350 gasser with 25,000 miles?

Looking at an F350

I've got my eyes on a 2005 Ford F350 XLT short box dually. This is more truck than I need with my current TT but I am thinking for the future and realize I may want to upgrade my TT in a few years and its much easier when your TV doesn't limit you. The Truck has a 6.8L V-10 GAS engine, Towing capacity of 16,200, Gear Ratio of 4.10 and GCVW of 23,500 so I know it will handle anything I may want down the line. 24,000 miles listed for $23,900. Anybody own one of these, in particular anyone own a GAS version of one of these? I like the idea of GAS as opposed to Diesel just for the pure cost associated with it. Why would I want to limit myself to a diesel only with a new TV?
Thanks

RE: Do extended warranties make sense?

Depends on your own financial situation really. You can pay lets say $1000 up front for coverage or you can take the chance that you may not need it. Hot water heater goes out, you scratch a check for it or turn it into warrenty for coverage. Furnace quits, you scratch a check for it or turn into warrenty for coverage. It only taked a couple of items going wrong to break even on your warrenty costs. Of course Murphey's Law does apply here... :B

RE: Heater

You'll be fine if its an AC/Heater combo. We use this heater to help offset the use of the big furnace and extra propane. If were hooked up to electricity it really does a good job of saving propane and keeps things pretty reasonable in the camper. It has a remote so you can controll it from under the covers too. :B

RE: Winterizing, Water Pump Bypass

Water heater bypass is good to go. I've drained the fresh water tank via the low point and its empty but I guess I just assumed that I needed a LITTLE pink stuff in there too to keep it all safe and good to go. I see the point about cleaning out the fresh water tank in the spring, I guess if my plan is to run the bleach solution through the system each spring I'll get plenty of flushing done with that?

Winterizing, Water Pump Bypass

What does it save me by installing a pump bypass for the pink stuff? Could I not just pump the antifreeze into the fresh water tank and use the pump as designed to run to all taps?
